Is Fort Myers The Right Place For You To Call Home?

If you are looking for a great place to live that has a nice laid back tropical feel, then you need to take a closer look at the Florida West coast. There are countless great little cities located on its over 700 miles of great coastline. It can be really difficult trying to find out which city is the best. Movingtruckrental.net has gone to work for you. We have done some research and asked some of the locals which city on the West coast of Florida is the best. It was not easy getting the locals to give up what they think are the best spots, but the great little city of Fort Myers kept coming up so we decided to take a closer look and find out why.

Take a closer look at Fort Myers

Fort Myers is a small city in Southwest Florida. It is just a few miles from some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and that is what all of the locals are trying to keep secret. They don’t want an influx of people invading their secret little paradise.

Thomas Edison and Henry Ford both had Winter homes in Fort Myers. Both of these homes are huge tourist attractions for the area. Fort Myers is considered to be the gateway to South Florida.

Is Fort Myers crowded

Fort Myers is a small city in terms of size, but it is not all that small in terms of population. There are just over 62,000 people that call Fort Myers home, and all of these people share around 31 square miles of land. That means that you will find right around 1500 people per square mile in Fort Myers. It is not too crowded when compared to some of the larger cities in the United States. The metropolitan area that consists of Fort Myers and the neighboring city of Coral Gables has a population of around 620,000 people.

Can you afford to live in Fort Myers

One of the greatest things about Fort Myers is the cost of living. It is actually a little bit lower than other parts of Florida. A meal for two at an average restaurant will set you back roughly $32.00. That is pretty cheap. A fast food joint will set you back just over six bucks a meal.

Bread seems to be right on average with the rest of Florida. You can expect to pay just over $2.00 per loaf. Eggs are currently right around $2.00 per dozen. Chicken breasts will cost around $3.50 per pound, and Apples and Oranges can cost as much as $3.00 per pound. That is a higher than normal price to pay for fruit especially when Florida grows its own Oranges.

The average utility bill is going to be right around $220.00 per month. It gets hot in Fort Myers, but its close proximity to the Gulf coast make it a little bit cooler than some of the other cities that are located inland. A three bedroom apartment is going to run you right around $1500.00 per month in the city. The same apartment outside of the city will only cost around $1200.00 per month. The average monthly income for Fort Myers residents is $3500 per month after taxes.

Is Fort Myers right for you? The best way to find out is to take a trip there and experience it for yourself.
